porter

patrick
porter is a jumpy person. mostly he walks around & writes in notebooks.
moreover, he records albums, over the last few years he's produced 5 full-length
lps & a slew of 7" eps, released on many different & equally
superb indie labels. he also writes books, 2001's nervous halo, 2003's
nott terrace & 2004's a clunk supreme being his best-known works.
in 2002 he read with jim carroll. in 2003 he spent a summer in a tiny
room in new york recording a trilogy of cds, lisha kill, maybe waltz,
& skylan mo, all to be released in 2004. he currently lives in downtown
denver, right next to the skyscraper that looks like a wine-red cash register.
here he works furiously on a 2nd novel & performs, records & tours,
both solo & with various bands, ranging from the shoegazer group phineas
gage to the increasingly infamous noise quintet big brown building.

says nick bensen of san francisco's free city media: the maybe waltz ep
is possibly even more subtly powerful than lisha kill. "kolorado"
is so full of anger that it's amazing to hear patrick porter maintain
his calm and composed delivery. "maybe waltz" is a wisp of a
song that flows into a haunting instrumental part. "the sea goes
to crags" is maybe my favorite song on the cd, with both a memorable
tune and a beautiful flow of imagery. "cordwood & spark"
is a lyrical and musical highlight as well, an honest assessment of options
coupled with a shredding guitar.
